The colorful abstract design was selected after an open competition that had over one hundred entries from Oregon artists. The plate was designed by Kelly Kievit, a fine artist who is currently working as a graphic designer in Portland. Rather than attempting to represent "culture" through specific images, or emphasizing one cultural sector over another, the Oregon Cultural Trust chose a design that is bold, abstract and distinctive. For more information on the Oregon Cultural Trust license plate program please see the Oregon DMV site. |

The Oregon Cultural Trust was authorized to create a unique license plate,
both to raise funds and to build awareness of the Oregon Cultural Trust. Oregonians may
purchase this distinctive plate by paying an additional $35 (two plate fee
of $30, plus $5 surcharge) when they register at Driver and Motor Vehicles
(DMV). Proceeds from the surcharge will go into the Oregon Cultural Trust to support
its grants programs.
