Metropolitan Youth Symphony is dedicated to offering a challenging, rewarding and fun musical experience for all young musicians. Their ensembles are designed to accommodate players of all levels of experience and ability MYS offers students a chance to explore different musical styles with chamber and specialty ensembles.  Musicians are placed in ensembles by playing ability, not by age, so that all students can progress at their own pace.

This year the Oregon Cultural Trust supported the MYS Jazz Ensemble, expanding jazz music training and performance opportunities for current MYS Jazz musician students, begin jazz outreach programs to underserved schools and provide jazz only public concerts to provide greater access to and exposure for this American art form.

On February 21, Metropolitan Youth Symphony “MYSfits String Ensemble” conducted by Lajos Balogh opened the Oregon House of Representatives Session, as guests of Representative Nolan.

MYS was proud be an example of what music means to our young people joining with arts, heritage and humanities adovcates from all over the state in Advocacy Day 2012 sponsored by the Cultural Advocacy Coalition of Oregon. The Cultural Advocacy Coalition of Oregon serves as your political voice in Salem on behalf of Oregon’s arts, heritage and humanities.
