Statement by Governor Ted Kulongoski on the Cultural Trust

(Salem, Ore.) - Each year thousands of Oregonians contribute to programs for children, for people in need, and to organizations that provide critical services across our state. Now Oregonians have an opportunity to give to something that gives back to all of us - the Oregon Cultural Trust.

Past support for the Trust has already led to grants in every region of the state - for a wide variety of artistic, cultural and heritage projects. A gift to arts and culture in Oregon in 2004 will - for many years to come - enrich the lives of our children, create jobs in the cultural industries, bring visitors to our state09, and improve our quality of life.

The Cultural Trust is a statewide strategy for public and private investment in Oregon's arts, heritage and humanities. Many other states are looking at the Trust as an innovative model for supporting art and culture. But the Cultural Trust will only succeed if Oregonians step forward with contributions.

If you have made a donation to an Oregon cultural nonprofit, your equal donation to the Cultural Trust qualifies for a tax credit from the State of Oregon.

Join me in giving "the gift that grows" by making a gift to the Cultural Trust in 2004. Learn more about it - give online at www.culturaltrust.org - or call 503-986-0088.

Thank you.
